1.        EEEAG-107E151 (from 2007) -- I am the principal investigator of a three-year project supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey). The title of the project is "Automatic Summarization and Keyphrase Extraction". The objective of this project was to develop summarization systems for Turkish and English..

2.        EEEAG-107234 (from 2007) -- I am the researcher of a three-year project supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey). The title of the project is " A Framework for Personal Video Information Management Systems". The objective of this project was to develop a framework for video information systems.

3.        IST-TURKEY (from 2006) -- I am the researcher of a three-year project supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey). The title of the project is "New Information Society Technologies for Turkey". The objective of this project is to enhance the research capability of Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering Departments of Bilkent University, and of Turkey at large, by reinforcing and proliferating the ongoing innovative IST-Research activities at these two departments so as to attain the active participation in European FP7 projects.

4.        EEEAG-100E008 (from 2000 to 2002) -- I am the principal investigator of a two-year project supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey). The title of the project is "Turkish Text-to-Speech System". The objective of this project was to develop a Text-to-Speech system for Turkish using concatenation method.

5.        EEEAG-244 (from 1997 to 1999) -- I was the principal investigator of a two-year project supported by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey). The title of the project was "Learning Translation Templates from Bilingual Translation Examples Using Machine Learning Techniques". The objective of this project was to develop a bi-directional translation system which can work between any two language pairs. In the method used in this project, translation templates for a pair of language are learned from a set of translation examples by using machine learning techniques.

6.        TU-LANGUAGE (from 1993 to 1998) -- I was a researcher in a five-year project supported by NATO. The title of the project was "Turkish Natural Language Processing Initiative: Developing Computational Foundations and Applications for Natural Language Processing in Turkish". The objective of the Turkish Natural Language Processing Initiative project was to develop methods, computer software and other computational resources to perform natural language processing in Turkish.
