Course Description:
This graduate seminar course takes an in-depth look at a wide selection of important topics in computer vision. Throughout the semester, we will survey and discuss recent conference papers and research articles related to image restoration and enhancement, context, attributes, image retrieval, scene understanding, visual saliency, action recognition, and video processing. The goals of the course are to give a deeper understanding of the state-of-the-art methods in vision literature, together with their strengths and weaknesses, and to provide students the ability to identify open issues and possible directions for future research.
Prerequisites:
Completion of a graduate course in computer vision, such as BIL 719 - Computer Vision. Ability to comprehend and analyze conference papers and journal articles in computer vision. Programming skills for the course project.
Requirements:
This is a seminar course, so students are expected to come to class prepared to actively participate in discussions. Each week two or three students will be responsible to give presentations on papers assigned for that week, and lead in-class discussions of the topics. For half of the time, all students will be required to hand in a brief summary (1-2 pages) of each paper, due before the beginning of the class. In addition, there is a course project (done individually) during the term.
Project:
The students taking the course will be required to do a project in computer vision which should be done individually. For a detailed description of the course project, follow this link. In preparing your progress and final project reports, you should use the provided template and submit them electronically in PDF format.
